Facilitating Evidence-Based Policy: Connecting Researchers and Legislative Staff In October 2016, our Executive Officer, Robin Kimbrough-Melton, was a presenter at this briefing, which focused on resources and strategies to support evidence-based policy. The briefing included a description of the model used in the Research-to-Policy Collaboration (RPC) Project as a process for connecting legislative staff and research experts based on legislative priorities and needs. Fighting the Opioid Epidemic on Multiple Fronts by Leveraging Empirical EvidenceOn June 24, 2016, we participated in a briefing in collaboration with the National Prevention Science Coalition and RTI International. Nationally recognized experts discussed research-based evidence for strategies preventing, intervening, and maintaining abstinence from opiate addictions. On November 2, 2017, our policy liaison, Jill McLeigh, presented at this briefing, during which a panel of researchers described (1) conditions that increase a person’s vulnerability to trafficking victimization, (2) community-based strategies that can be tailored to local needs by task forces and key stakeholders (such as law enforcement, faith-based organizations, and nonprofits), and (3) strategies that have the potential to reduce individual risk of victimization. Additionally, the briefing provided a survivor’s perspective on how her victimization could have been prevented.
